Major Disruption in Evia and Skiathos
Severe weather conditions beginning Saturday evening have caused significant problems and infrastructure damage across several regions of Greece. The main impacts were recorded on the island of Evia and the island of Skiathos, with additional effects in parts of the Peloponnese, Thessaly, and the Sporades.
In Evia, the situation was particularly difficult in the Dirfys-Messapia municipality. Floodwaters entered homes, affected local roads, and caused damage to agricultural production. Due to landslides at the Derveni location, the main road leading to northern Evia was closed to traffic in both directions.
Flooding and Strong Winds in Skiathos and Parga
In Skiathos, high volumes of rainfall within a short period caused coastal flooding, turning streets into rivers that swept away outdoor furniture and caused power outages across parts of the island.
Meanwhile, a waterspout struck villages in the Fanari area of Parga. Strong winds damaged roofs and displaced tiles from numerous homes while rainfall continued in the area.
Outlook for the Coming Days
Civil protection authorities remain on alert across the affected regions. The weather phenomena are expected to begin easing from Sunday afternoon. Monday and Tuesday will bring significantly improved weather conditions, with only isolated local showers mainly in Crete and the eastern mainland, alongside northerly winds and autumn-level temperatures.
